בָּאנוּ חֹשֶךְ לְגָרֵשׁ!

We've come to expel the darkness!

כָּל אֶחָד הוּא אוֹר קָטָן - וְכֻלָּנוּ - אוֹר אֵיתָן

 - our Mission -

SHINING A LIGHT

A year after our lights went out, we will bring back the light and expel the darkness. The first edition of this growing community project - 2024 -  therefore presents several dozen Hanukkiahs from Israeli and Jewish people all over the world that are exemplary for our individual and collective experience. From a surviving menorahs of Kibbutz Be’eri; to family Hanukkiahs from all over or a newly jointly created menorah by children of the evacuated community of Re’im; - they all tell the stories resilience, creativity, love and hope.

Every menorah can be enjoyed as an immersive AR experience through your phone; alongside with the story of its creator and an accompanying personal message to the viewer.

Let's find ourselves again and share the light! Enjoy the hug of these amazing Hanukkiahs from all over and also create your own.

Everyone is a small light; but together we shine bright!

PRINCIPLES OF THE PROJECT

The platform serves the immediate need to strengthen the bond between Israel and the Diaspora. It provides a sense of belonging to one big community of faith, integrating individuals and communities everywhere by serving as a meeting place for joint experiences, celebrations while creating ripples for connections of various kinds in many other fields. The project strengthens the sense of belonging in a time of hyper-increasing anti-Semitism and a vital need to unite our strength and preserve Jewish values and culture, even in the difficult atmosphere prevailing abroad.

In a world of significant changes and uncertainty, we offer a new and flexible tool to create an international project that connects people from all over the world around their Jewish identity. HanukKAN is a community project built on the principle: from the people - for the people. It invites all people who identify Jewish or Israeli and consider themselves as friends. There is no distinction between religious - non-religious, Israeli - non-Israeli, sexes, ages, backgrounds, political ideas or convictions. It is a place for all to unite and to strengthen our common story and identity.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Uniting the people of Israel and abroad: HanukKAN aims to unite the Jewish people and bridge between different locations and political visions. Oct 7th has made it clear: our enemies don’t see us as different people, so it is time that we truly act as one people by helping each other, listening to each other and together create a joint and better future for all

  • Initiating a process of healing / rebirth and building a vision: The unspeakable atrocities and pain of Oct 7th and the huge sacrifices of our people during the War of Iron Swords have been in vain, if we do not find a way to live again. HanukKAN aims to be a part of this healing process by boosting the feeling of togetherness; by reconnecting with our long story, culture and joint experiences; by creating a vision of community and life for our children

  • Creating a future for our children: The crisis is not only affecting adults, but also children, for whom it is more devastating as they are in the process of emotional and physical development. This project answers the need to stay available for children; to strengthen the bond; to shift focus to positiveness and culture; to create a vision and future together

  • Strengthening Ties with Diaspora Communities: October 7th showed us the importance of strong connection between the Diaspora and the Jewish Israeli society. The project is designed to strengthen ties between Israeli Jewish society and Jews in the Diaspora, especially during these times when we are all under external attacks.

  • Boosting Morale of Overseas Communities: With the Oct 7th war, Jewish symbols are disappearing from public spaces worldwide; the morale of overseas communities is low and threatened. Individuals and groups are being ostracized from various social, cultural, and economic events.
The project aims to connect individuals and communities, reminding them that they are not alone and that Jews worldwide stand together and help each other. In both directions. We are many!

  • Reclaiming the Public Space: Since October 7th, Jews worldwide have been subjected to anti-Semitic attacks in public spaces. Many are concealing their Jewish identity and avoiding events or activities that might identify them as Jewish or Zionist.
The project aims to reclaim public spaces and create a virtual platform for Jewish communities globally to celebrate Jewish holidays in the public space.

  • Outward Outreach and Leadership:
We sometimes find it difficult to explain our position and value to the world. This project will create endless opportunities to invite others, supporters of Israel and other supporting communities. It will expose Israeli and Jewish culture and holidays to a wider audience in a positive and optimistic manner and create new bridges of fruitful collaboration for our common goals.
